SSI Best Practices at IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Conference: Engineering Design and Silo Inspection

Recent Award-Winning Projects include:
Holcim Green Bay Silo Expansion - The Holcim Green Bay Silo Expansion Project received the 2023 Concrete Design Award from the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association. This project expanded the storage and truck-loading capabilities. This included pneumatic feeding from lake barges, a new 10,000 metric ton storage silo, and reclaim layout and design to feed bulk trucks with a new automated loading system. SSI designed the terminal facility expansion, performing layout and design of the entire expansion, including mechanical layout and design and all structural engineering, including the new 10,000 metric ton silo.
Monarch Cement Terminal - The Monarch Cement Terminal and Concrete Materials Plant won the Concrete Promotional Group Excellence in Concrete Awards 2023 Concrete The Works Award. This greenfield project, in Spring Hill, Kansas, offers cement to a growing market. It includes an innovative design to allow Monarch to feed the four new 2,500 ton silos with up to five trucks at a time. Cement is then stored until ready to be reclaimed to client bulk trucks. SSI designed the entire mechanical system, including unloading trucks and pneumatically transporting cement into the silos, as well as the automated loading system. SSI performed the design of the new terminal facility, including the layout and design of the mechanical systems as well as the structural engineering of the four new silos as well as the balance of the terminal.
Lehigh Mitchell Project - Lehigh Mitchell won the 2022 Outstanding Concrete Award from the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association. SSI’s project scope included new design for two 60 feet in diameter by 251 feet tall cement silos. The storage capacity of each silo is 16,000 metric tons. Additionally, SSI designed a new blend silo, which has an internal diameter of 59 feet in the upper storage space and an overall height of 178 feet. Storage capacity is 13,000 metric tons.

We provide more than just a visual inspection, including ground penetrating radar, ultrasonic thickness testing, and drone support to access challenging areas. In addition, we can provide material flow studies to better understand why your stored product is not flowing at the desired rate. We can also collect field samples to be lab-tested for numerous properties to analytically support the visual inspection.
